Mentorship opened the door for Basel

March of Dimes Canada and MentorAbility Canada helped Basel Alhamad – who is deaf and came to Canada from Syria without knowing English or ASL – find a job on a farm that matched his skills and interests.

Basel worked on a farm in Syria before coming to Canada. Support from March of Dimes Canada’s (MODC) Employment Services – and a connection to a mentorship opportunity with a local farming business through MentorAbility Canada – has led him to a rewarding job on a Canadian farm.

In this video, you’ll hear from Basel, his employer, and Lisa Livingston, MODC Regional Employment Services Manager, on the impact Employment Services is having on the lives of people living with disabilities.

MentorAbility Canada is offered by March of Dimes Canada and the Ontario Disability Employment Network (ODEN).
