March of Dimes Canada Celebrates National Disability Employment Awareness Month

Calls on Employers to Consider Value of Disability-Inclusive Employment

October 1, 2021 – Toronto – March of Dimes Canada encourages Canadian employers to consider disability-inclusive hiring today, as the organization marks the beginning of National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

“When you hire from a talent pool of people who have a disability, you drive cultural change in your organization,” says Lesley Smith, vice president, employment services at MODC. “If you have an opening at your business, why not join the thousands of Canadian employers who realize the benefits of creating a diverse and inclusive workplace?”

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Providing personalized wrap-around employment services is a significant part of March of Dimes Canada’s services. MODC empowers people with disabilities to find meaningful employment that is realistic and sustainable, supporting 15,640 clients last year alone to follow their employment ambitions to explore and prepare for careers, or access new work.

March of Dimes Canada also works closely with employers of all sizes, across all sectors to hire, train and support employees with disabilities to be successful contributors in the workforce.

“We help employers leverage a national bench strength of pre-screened, qualified candidates regardless of where they operate in Canada,” says Smith. “Our team has achieved a 70% employment and positive outcome rate for people with unique and complex needs because we take the time to ensure our personalized assessment process matches employers with their ideal candidate.”

Everyone benefits when individuals living with a disability participate equally in the labour force. Employers who have navigated the COVID-19 pandemic and want to explore the benefits of diverse, inclusive hiring are encouraged to email MODC Employment Services at es@marchofdimes.ca or call 1-833-612-6632 (1-833-612-MODC).
